Von Ruden, Ramirez lead Rainbows past Santa Clara

Eric Ramirez went 3-for-4 with a walk, two doubles and three RBIs and Hawaii made Santa Clara ace Mitchell White’s outing his worst of the season in an 8-1 victory tonight at Les Murakami Stadium.

Hawaii senior Kyle Von Ruden (3-1) tossed Hawaii’s first nine-inning complete game in two years, allowing three hits with no walks and four strikeouts to earn the win.

Jacob Sheldon-Collins added three hits and scored twice and Kekai Rios was 2-for-4 with two RBIs for Hawaii (10-13), which has won four of five.

White (2-3), who entered the game with 48 strikeouts and 24 hits allowed in 33 2/3 innings, had not given up an earned run in his past 17 innings.

UH ended that quickly with three runs in the first inning and chased White after a season-low five innings. He gave up a season-high nine hits and five earned runs in the loss for the Broncos (9-11).

Matt LoCoco singled and scored two runs and Marcus Doi was 2-for-5 with a run and an RBI.

Sophomore Chayce Ka’aua, who missed the past 19 games with a broken finger, hit sixth in the lineup as the designated hitter and went 1-for-4 with a walk and an RBI.

Von Ruden has pitched at least 7 2/3 innings in five straight starts.

The series continues Saturday night at 6:35
