CONCORD, Calif. » Authorities say they shot a Northern California man suspected of shooting an 8-year-old boy.

The Oakland Tribune reports that Fairfield police say they shot the 32-year-old Concord man on Monday. No one else was injured.

Police say they received a report that the man was in Fairfield and shot him after he tried to run off. The man was taken to a local trauma center in critical condition.

Authorities say Fairfield police’s Major Crimes Unit is investigating the shooting with help from the Solano County District Attorney’s Office.

Concord police Cpl. Christopher Blakely says a boy was playing outside Friday when someone in a silver Honda containing two men shot a single bullet at a home. The boy was taken to a children’s hospital in Oakland.
