Some folks raise barns, others fix roads
There is actual good news from the file on bad roads: It’s the story of Mapele Road in Kahaluu.
Heavy rains in November caused the road to collapse, and the neighbors, left without curbside trash pickup, rallied together to fix it themselves. Large boulders, donations and labor came from the community, along with fill material from the city used to repair the hole.
Disputed ownership of the road had impeded city upkeep of the road. Now officials are assessing the residents’ work. That may take a while longer, but now’s the time for a shout-out to the community.
