Fire destroyed a structure on an agricultural lot near Wahiawa today.
The fire started about 4:50 p.m. in a large, single-story utility structure near Whitmore Avenue and Kamehameha Highway, said Honolulu Fire Department Capt. David Jenkins.
Sixteen firefighters responded and found a 16- by 60-foot building engulfed in flames. Firefighters brought the flames under control by 5:35 p.m. and extinguished the fire by 6:35 p.m.
Jenkins said a 40-year-old worker at the property called firefighters after he noticed smoke and tried to stop the fire with a fire extinguisher.
The Red Cross was called to assist people with food, shelter and clothing needs .
Jenkins said the building was used as an outbuilding and had some office space within. Firefighters were working on a cause and damage estimate.
