KITV’s Mike Cherry will move from mornings to evenings. Cherry, an Emmy award-winning journalist, graduated from Maui High School and the University of Hawaii at Manoa.

KITV Island News director Mike Darrah announced a new lineup of news anchor teams today.

“We are very proud of our current staff who have stepped up to new positions, and we welcome some new talent,” said Darrah.

New to the KITV news team is Priscilla Luong, who anchors KITV Island News weekends at 5 p.m., 6 p.m. and 10 p.m. Luong was an anchor/reporter in Oklahoma City and Milwaukee.

Starting late July, Lindsey (Adams) Fukano will co-anchor “Good Morning Hawaii.” Fukano is an anchor at ABC affiliate KERO in Bakersfield, Calif.

KITV reporter Maleko McDonnell, who hosts “Maleko’s Room” on iHeart radio station Star 101.9 in the afternoon, will lead “Good Morning Hawaii” every weekday starting April 19. McDonnell is a graduate of Saint Louis School in Honolulu and Northwest Missouri State University.

KITV’s Mike Cherry moves from morning news to evenings. Cherry, an Emmy award-winning journalist, graduated from Maui High School and the University of Hawaii at Manoa. He begins his new position on April 18 as co-anchor with veteran journalist Yunji de Nies.

Cherry, de Nies, sports director Robert Kekaula and meteorologist Pete Caggiano take the reins of Hawaii’s only one-hour evening newscasts at 6 p.m. and 10 p.m. Paula Akana and de Nies will anchor the 5 p.m. news with Caggiano.

If Brandy Higa is not on KITV, I’m not watching that station any more. ;(

  2. gth says:

I used to like KITV with their former anchor teams…….Is Paul Drewes (spelling may be incorrect) still there? Miss Pamela on the weekends too.

As long as Paula is around, I may still watch it. However, Kekaula should have been the first to go………

  3. shortgeek says:

I’d watch KITV news more often if they were on the NewsOn channel on the Roku 3. As someone with no cable box, I need alternatives to my local news, and I can only catch Hawaii News Now either on my Roku or via OTA antenna.

when kitv brought back kaka is when i stopped watching them….he so arrogant, enuff

  5. cojef says:

Comments are critical at whomever the newscasters are? Each is doing their best to keep their job. Alas pet peeves abound because people are fickle, me included.

  6. Keolu says:

I’m willing to watch Lindsey’s show.

A little too much makeup Priscilla

  8. twitter6 says:

Keka is arrogant and not friendly to the eye. Get rid of him and the viewers will come. He is the only reason I don’t watch KITV

  9. allie says:

hey! no call to be mean.

  10. Hawaiiobserver says:

I like Luong but looks like she’s slumping. They need someone who seems personable like Paula Akana.

  11. username_required says:

TV news should have their equivalent of comment section. Everybody gets to see the bibadee warriors do their thing.

  12. Mr Mililani says:

Hard to understand how someone who looks like Kekaula can report on “sports”. If it was Sean Ching, it would be a little more sensible but I think he’s an attorney now. Not sure about that.

  13. lmoore says:

Congratulations, Maleko! Been listenting to Maleko’s Room for awhile. I hope you find to to sleep with your new schedule.

Sad that Pamela Young no longer anchors weekends. And she took Mixed Plate back to KHON.

Not sure if something is wrong with KITV’s teleprompter, but news anchors are always stumbling over their words. I’ll watch KITV over anything Keahi Tucker is anchoring any day.

  14. SHOPOHOLIC says:

Hawaii state government agencies cherry picking too many “anchors” for their spokesperson openings? Wadda joke. But I see in typical fashion, they hired some new tottie eye candy.

  15. MoiLee says:

Mike Cherry, Yungi de Nies and Robert Kekaula are THE A TEAM….. I like Mike and Yunji because they seem to be on the same speed everyday…. Calm, Cool, collected and both speak very well in broadcasting the news!! Robert Kekaula on the other hand is a Sports man power house announcing both radio & TV…glad they kept him,but they need to also keep Brandi Higa. She is so passionate doing the sports!! I don’t why KITV didn’t offer KGMB’s Dan Cook to come back….this guy is wasting his talent doing the ……Weather…. Big deal!POHO!

Got a lot of teeth in the news

Robert needs to seriously take care of his health. He’s easily 400 or close to it. I am surprised he hasn’t gone through gastric bypass procedure. If he values his health he needs to get serious on diet and exercise.

Junjii is the worse. She has a bad habit of nervous laughter & she iß àlways stumbling over her lines.8

I turn the channel if Priscilla Luong is on, her eyes are scary, I don’t know if it’s her makeup, but her spooky eyes are distracting. I thought, ok, it’s just me, give her a chance. Then my husband saw Priscilla Luong for the first time and turned the channel. He said, that girl looks spooky, what’s wrong with her eyes. She doesn’t look friendly. Hope she gets less tense, settles down to present a friendlier manner, and looks at her tapes to correct her makeup.

Although I am on the mainland, I truly enjoy KITV’s streaming newscasts. Mike Cherry is an awesome newscaster and a man of integrity and respect. Go Mike!
