The Hawaii Pacific and Hawaii Hilo softball teams split a doubleheader Saturday at Howard A. Okita Field.
In the first game, Kayla Sanchez batted 3-for-3 with three runs scored and Nicole Viena went 3-for-3 with two runs in the Sharks’ 14-5 five-inning victory. Hilo led 5-1 before HPU scored nine runs in the bottom of the third.
The Vulcans’ Angela Aguinaga went 2-for-3 with three RBIs.
In the second game, Cristina Menjivar batted 2-for-5 with three RBIs and Victoria Garcia had three hits and two RBIs in Hilo’s 9-5 win.
Sanchez went 3-for-4 with three RBIs for HPU. The Sharks went to 14-30, 10-16 PacWest, while the Vulcans moved to 28-17, 17-9.
McLachlin leads Mid-Pacific after two
Parker McLachlin shot a 7-under-par 65 on Saturday to take a five-shot lead after the second round of the Mid-Pacific Open at Mid-Pacific Country Club.
McLachlin is at 136 with Cory Oride and Dean Wilson tied for second.
Alex Ching and Nick Mason are six strokes off the lead at 142.
The final round starts today at 6:50 a.m.
Sullivan to speak at QB club
Jack Sullivan, a member of the “Friends of Alexander Joy Cartwright, Jr.,” will speak at the Honolulu Quarterback Club on Monday.
The group is holding a 196th birthday tribute to Cartwright, the “Father of Modern Baseball,” today at 10 a.m. at Oahu Cemetery in Nuuanu.
Lunch, which costs $16, starts at 11:30 a.m. with the program to follow at noon at Maple Garden Restaurant. The public is invited to attend.
