A 24-year-old Uber driver was indicted by an Oahu grand jury Thursday in an alleged sexual assault on a 16-year-old girl.
Luke Wadahara was charged with two counts of first-degree sex assault and one count of first-degree attempted sex assault. His bail was set at $150,000.
He is expected to be arraigned in Circuit Court next week.
According to a police affidavit filed in District Court on Tuesday, the victim told police that she and her friends used their cellphones to request an Uber ride from Ala Moana Center on the night of April 16. A black Dodge C harger with the personalized license plate “SEXI” arrived, with Wadahara as the driver, the affidavit said.
The suspect made a stop in Mililani and then drove to Makiki with the victim, according to the affidavit. The suspect detoured to a place in Makiki where he parked the car and sexually assaulted her several times, the affidavit said.
Businessman accused of contractor fraud
A Waipahu businessman was charged by the attorney general’s office Thursday with unlicensed contracting after he allegedly failed to complete work on three Kapolei-area homes and had not obtained the proper licenses.
Christopher Vaenuk was charged with two counts of first-degree unlicensed contractor fraud and one count of second-degree unlicensed contractor fraud.
The attorney general’s office said that in 2011 and 2012 Vaenuk agreed to do work on the three homes requiring specific contractor’s licenses when he had none. The work allegedly was never completed, and homeowners did not get their money back.
The maximum penalties for first-degree unlicensed contractor fraud are 10 years’ imprisonment and a $25,000 fine. The maximum penalties for second-degree unlicensed contractor fraud are five years’ imprisonment and a $10,000 fine.
In 2011 Vaenuk was fined $2,500 and ordered to not engage in contracting until he obtained a license, according to court records.
