  • Is there no end to careless irresponsible drivers in Hawaii? They go around killing police officers and getting a misdemeanor, crossing the center line and crashing into a truck, crashing through the front of a restaurant causing serious injuries, and then, of course, running down lots of pedestrians.

I suppose these things happen everywhere but it’s still ridiculous. Wake up people while you are driving and pay attention to the task at hand which is DRIVING!

    • It is a KNOWN–Scientific Fact–that The Magnetic North Pole has shifted, by as much as 23.5 to 28 degrees. Resultantly, it is apparent, by reading the daily newspapers, that many people have obviously gone MESHUGGANA…

  • I’m not sure why the Star-Advertiser has to be coy about naming the restaurant: El Mariachi. Maybe the apparent trend toward nonspecificity took a jump when the term “dangerous instrument” came into vogue.

It’s all too easy to assign blame; maybe judgment should be witheld until more facts develop.

      • Nah, too old. Maybe if they were in their teens or 20’s.

        Driver: “How’s about Mexican?”

Passenger: “Nah, Taco Bell gives me the trots”

Driver: “El Mariachi is right there”

Passenger: “It doesn’t have a drive thru. I’m too lazy to get out of the car”

        Driver: “Watch this”

        • But seriously, I hope everyone in that family completely recovers from this accident. I hope those two kids aren’t psychologically affected by this “bolt from the blue”. The two seniors in the car too.

If anything, we can all learn something important from this…If you love somebody, let them know. Don’t put it off. They can be taken very quickly and even during nice, fun occasions, like just going out to eat.

  • This is conjecture, and numerous instances bear this out, but older drivers have frequently caused these types of accidents when they mistake the gas pedal for the brakes, with tragic consequences.

    • These “instances” are more likely a result of the MULTIPLE UNNECESSARY MEDICATIONS being prescribed by IRRESPONSIBLE PHYSICIANS–FOR PROFIT… And now, in the infinite wisdom of the Hawaii State Legislature–they want to create a law to permit all “PSYCHOLOGISTS” to prescribe Psychiatric Medications. Prepare yourselves for “ZOMBIELAND”!

      • Yes. There is a trend of only senior citizens crashing through store fronts. I blame the meds turning them into zombies. Time to approve the cure and not treat the symptoms. High blood pressure is needed to give the brain the blood it needs to function properly.

  • It was a matter of time for something like this to happen! Installing safety posts in areas facing parking or traffic for preventive measures would be beneficial for all customers in a restaurant or other establishments. Like those installed at some of the post office.

  • This lady is too old to be driving and now she’s hurt someone. Negligent behavior at a minimum but she won’t be held responsible, they never are. Some people just don’t want to admit they’ve lost the necessary skill to drive a car safely. The state should really clamp down on older license holders and require medical certification of their ability to drive after a certain age. I hope they at least take her license away, she’s obviously a danger to the public behind the wheel.

  • This is a serious accident for all involved and all the classy jokes and comments posted here. SA readers worse then tabloids. Or is it one and the same?
