Trial starts Monday in theft of Kamehameha statue spear tip
HILO >> A man will go to trial Monday in the case of a 6-foot spear section severed from the Kamehameha the Great statue in Hilo.
The Hawaii Tribune-Herald reports William Roy Carroll III rejected a plea deal in court last week that would have made him eligible to have the charges removed from his record after he completed probation without violations.
Carroll told Judge Glenn Hara that he wanted to go to trial.
Charges against Carroll include criminal property damage and theft.
He is in custody on $11,000 bail.

Where is the “trail”? Good job SA.
As a native Hawaiian, he may feel he is owed the spear?
Well it appears that not all the Polynesian-Hawaiians on Oahu think much of Kamehameha’s death and destruction tour on Oahu, and what that gut ripper spear represents.
Someone stole a trail using a spear tip?
I hope this isn’t as long as those others trails…
Seriously SA????
Do you folks ever proofread? Trail? The trail to the trial??
Where does the trail begin? I’d like to join the hike and see the spear.
Naw, all youse guys tink it one typo. But no typo. See, wen da tip cut off da speah, den wat left is one walking stick. See da pic, how Kamehameha hold it? And why he carry one walking stick? Foah go on da trail, dummy.
Trail – kinda like “and you are my poo”.
I guess someone at SA doesn’t know how to spell trial….lose money…
Why did they offer him that “plea deal”? The guy should have took it. Anyway, I hope that if he is guilty he is sent to jail and also made to pay to replace and or repair the spear.
Kinda lolo dis one…should’ve taken the plea deal.
C U in court.
Publicity seeker opted to go to trial to gain respect among his peers? Could be otherwise his move may be construed as stupid, yes?
Do you really think his peers serve on juries?
