Fire investigators are trying to determine what caused a fire that damaged an Ahuimanu home in Kaneohe early this morning.
Two persons were in the structure at Hui Koloa Place when the fire was reported at 3:31 a.m.
The homeowner was alerted by the sound of the fire. He and another resident were able to evacuate the building. The homeowner, a 60-year-old man, suffered smoke inhalation and burns to his right hand. He was treated by paramedics and taken to a hospital in serious condition.
The first firefighters arrived at 3:38 a.m. to find the two-story home emanating heavy smoke from a ground-floor bedroom window.
The fire was brought under control at 3:54 a.m.
