Police arrest man for allegedly threatening bus driver

Dell Lee Kenela was charged with interference with the operator of a public transit vehicle.

A 49-year-old homeless man was charged Tuesday after he allegedly threatened a city bus driver with rope that had a metal nut tied to its end, and then damaged the bus.

Police said that at 1:30 p.m. Dell Lee Kenela threatened a 41-year-old bus driver while the bus en route in Mililani Mauka. After the driver made an unscheduled stop to let the suspect get off the bus, the suspect damaged a window and the rear of the vehicle.

Police later found the suspect on Meheula Parkway and arrested him on suspicion of interferring with the operator of a transit vehicle, a felony, and third-degree criminal property damage. His bail was set at $20,000.
