SEATTLE >> In the eighth inning, C.J. Cron hit an opposite-field home run down the right field line. In the ninth inning, he had an even bigger hit that barely got out of the infield.

Cron’s two-run bloop single with the bases loaded lifted the Los Angeles Angels to a 7-6 comeback win against the Seattle Mariners on Friday night.

The Angels had loaded the bases with one out against closer Steve Cishek (2-2) in the ninth. Cron’s short pop up landed just out of reach of shortstop Ketel Marte. Center fielder Leonys Martin and left fielder Nori Aoki charged in but could only watch as the ball fell and two runs scored.

“I knew I definitely didn’t hit it far enough for an outfielder to catch,” Cron said. “All I knew is it had to get past Marte, and I thought it had a good chance.”

The Angels came into the game on a six-game losing streak, and it looked like it would continue after they fell behind by four runs after six innings and trailed 6-3 going into the eighth.

“Man, it’s nice to win,” Cron said. “We hit a rough patch. I don’t know what was going on, but nothing was going right. It was a nice little comeback for us and we’re going to take it.”

Marte hit a three-run triple and Nelson Cruz and Chris Iannetta each hit solo home runs for the Mariners, who ended a three-game winning streak.

Cron’s solo homer was his third of the year, and Jefry Marte added a run-scoring double in the eighth to cut Seattle’s lead to one.

A baserunning error kept the Mariners from adding a run in the bottom of the eighth. With one out and Aoki on first, Robinson Cano doubled to extend his hitting streak to 12 games. Aoki missed the base as he rounded second, forcing him to backtrack. He ended up on third instead of having a chance at scoring.

“You don’t often see that either, but it was a strange game tonight,” Seattle manager Scott Servais said. “There was a lot of stuff that happened that we haven’t seen happen to us early in this season.”

Joe Smith (1-2) loaded the bases with two outs by intentionally walking Kyle Seager before getting out of the inning without allowing a run.

Los Angeles starter Nick Tropeano pitched five innings and got into several jams, but the Mariners offense had trouble scoring early. Seattle loaded the bases in the second and fourth innings but came away with only one run to show for it — on Martin’s sacrifice fly.

“It was kind of a battle, I put myself in too many high-pressure situations,” Tropeano said. “I thought I made pitches when I had to, and that was a great team win. They picked me up.”

Cruz gave the Mariners a 2-1 lead in the fifth with his seventh homer. In the sixth, Seattle again loaded the bases and this time, Marte tripled to the right-center gap — past diving right fielder Kole Calhoun — to clear the bases.

Seattle starter Nathan Karns cruised early, then gave up singles to three of the first four batters in the seventh and left with the bases loaded and one out. Calhoun drove in a run with a sacrifice fly, then Trout’s run-scoring double cut Seattle’s lead to 5-3.

TRAINING ROOM

Mariners: Three relievers on the disabled list will test their arms Saturday. RHP Joaquin Benoit (right shoulder inflammation) and LHP Charlie Furbush (biceps tendinitis) will throw simulated games. RHP Tony Zych, who went on the DL on May 2 with right shoulder tendinitis, will have a light throwing session.

Angels: IF Cliff Pennington was placed on the 15-day DL. He left Thursday’s game against the Cardinals with a left hamstring cramp. 3B Yunel Escobar also left Thursday’s game after jamming his thumb diving for a ball and was held out of the lineup Friday.

ROSTER MOVES

The Angels brought up infielders Gregorio Petit and Marte from Triple-A Salt Lake in response to Pennington and Escobar’s injuries. RHP Javy Guerra was also designated for assignment.

UP NEXT

Mariners: RHP Hisashi Iwakuma (1-4, 4.19 ERA) starts against the Angels in the second game of the series Saturday night. Iwakuma pitched eight innings at Los Angeles on April 22, allowing two runs, but got a no-decision as the Mariners won 5-2 in 10 innings.

Angels: RHP Jhoulys Chacin is making his first start for the Angels after being traded from the Braves on Wednesday. He was 1-2 with a 5.40 ERA with Atlanta this season.
