A Honolulu police officer is posted on Waihee Road, where a water main broke this morning and left two schools and 22 homes without water.

Not long after Board of Water Supply repair crews completed repairs to a broken water main in Kaneohe this morning, another, larger water main ruptured in nearby Kahaluu, forcing the closure of two area schools.

Kahaluu Elementary School and Kamehameha Preschool were affected by the latest water main break and school officials said both schools are closed today.

Repair crews finished patching up the 8-inch main near 45-671 Kamehameha Hwy around 4 a.m., which had been damaged by a contractor Wednesday afternoon.

At around 6 a.m., repair crews were again dispatched, this time to a 12-inch main break on Waihee Road near Kamehameha Highway. Police closed the section of Waihee Road between Ahilama Road and Kamehameha Highway.

Motorists are advised to avoid the area and seek alternate routes.
