Brush fires are tricky. A standard procedure for firefighters after stopping a wildfire, the crews will monitor for hours or even days and even crawl around on hands and knees to feel for hot spots. Some of the most disastrous fires in history have occurred from re-kindled flareups. (Oakland Hills) Since the fires are not always efficient burners, the fuels become even more dry and burn faster and hotter on the subsequent runs. Roots will smolder for days and cannot be put out with hoses and helicopter drops. Fires are stopped with hand crews with shovels and hand tools. The absolute worst thing to happen to a firefighting company and individual firefighter’s is to leave a fire and have to return.
