Talk about a loaded question for Miss Hawaii USA Chelsea Hardin during Sunday’s Miss USA pageant. Hardin — voted first runner-up to Miss District of Columbia — was asked during the question-and-answer segment whom she would vote for among the likely presidential candidates: Democrat Hillary Clinton or former pageant owner Donald Trump, a Republican. Hardin handled the question thoughtfully, never disclosing her choice. Instead, she said that gender doesn’t matter when choosing the next commander in chief and that the next president will simply have to push what’s right for the country. Many criticized the question posed by Harper’s Bazaar editor Laura Brown, who defended the query and noted that Hardin handled it beautifully.
Preseason NFL football sounds like a winner
The idea being floated by the Hawaii Tourism Authority of the NFL staging preseason football games in Hawaii is a good one, especially since — unlike the recently departed Pro Bowl — preseason games actually are meaningful to most of the players involved. They don’t affect the regular season standings of the teams, but they do determine which players make the final rosters, so there is far greater individual motivation involved. Still to be determined: How much money, if any, would Hawaii taxpayers have to shell out to the NFL? Can the city and state plan ahead so people get to see the games instead of being stuck in traffic?
