    HISTORIC PHOTO EXHIBIT OPENS

Dr. Joseph W.C. Young, honorary mayor of Chinatown, left, joined exhibit organizer Betty Yao and her husband, Paul Lau, in admiring a poster-size photo of a Chinese girl at the opening reception for “China Through the Lens of John Thomson 1869-1872” Sunday afternoon at the East-West Center Gallery. Scottish photographer Thomson was one of the pioneers of photojournalism. The photo of the girl dates from his first year in China. The exhibit continues through Sept. 11.
