Magnolia Bakery debuts exclusive Aloha Cupcake

Magnolia Bakery Cafe is adding an only-in-Hawaii item to its repertoire of upscale baked goods: a lilikoi cupcake with haupiafilling and a rainbow meringue frosting.

Find the Aloha Cupcake at the Ala Moana cafe and kiosk starting Thursday. Call 942-4132.

Now, back to the frosting: The bakery tops all cupcakes with its signature swirl, a soft swoop made with a spatula and an expertflick of the wrist (look it up on YouTube).

Learn this and other Magnolia techniques in icing classes — $75 per person; must have a group of six. After the two-hour sessioneveryone goes home with six cupcakes that they created, and recipes for Magnolia’s vanilla cupcake and vanilla buttercreamfrosting.
