Alex Chiarella and Alex Omer fired a final-round 61 to win the Aloha Section PGA Pro-Pro Championship at Royal Ka‘anapali on Sunday. The Maui pros split $3,000.
Chiarella and Omer, who had 11 birdies in the final round, finished with a team total of 15-under-par 127. They trailed 2015 winners Kevin Hayashi and Kevin Carll by three heading into the final round after Hayashi and Carll opened with 63 Saturday.
Carll, head pro at Waialae Country Club, and Hayashi, out of Hilo Muni, took second at 132. John Hearn and Ryan Acosta were another shot back.
Chiarella was making his professional debut after graduating from the University of San Diego last month. He and Omer both are Seabury Hall alums.
Chung finishes 5 under in HSJGA
Joshua Chung was the only golfer to finish in red numbers last weekend, winning the oldest age group at the 2016 HSJGA King Auto Group State 12-under Junior Championship by 12 shots.
Chung, from Honolulu, had rounds of 69-70 at the Hawaii Prince Golf Course to finish at 5-under par in the Boys 11-12 division. The 11-12 girls champion is Summer Wong of Haiku. She shot 74-80 to win by five over Shelby Keolanui and Kayli Bunyan.
The 7-10 girls champion is Kaneohe’s Raya Nakao (79-79). Honolulu’s Taiki Marsh (72-81) is the boys winner.
The 11-12 divisions played the course at 5,205 yards and the younger golfers at 4,486.
The HSJGA King Auto 13-18 State Junior Championship is Tuesday and Wednesday at Hokuli‘a.
