The Cutter Ford car dealership in Aiea will soon finish its $6.5 million renovation after more than two years of construction.
Cutter Management Co. Vice President Heather Cutter said the 41-year-old dealership was in a need of a face-lift, but the renovation was meant to show Cutter’s dedication to the community that it has been a part of for the past four decades.
“Cutter Ford was the first store we had in Hawaii,” Cutter said. “Not only were we in need of a face-lift from head to toe; we wanted to demonstrate our commitment to the community and the area.”
The renovation included tripling the size of the showroom; upgrading air conditioning and lighting; enclosing exterior lanai; adding marble tiling; expanding waiting rooms; adding a coffee bar; and extending the Wi-Fi.
“It’s almost as if we imploded the building and started from scratch, but we were operating the whole time,” Cutter said.
Cutter said the dealership is adding on employees as a result of the expansion.
General Manager Pat Ah You, who has been with the dealership for 39 years, said the revamping of the facility represented a shift in the industry’s attitude, to create a better experience for potential car owners.
“It is all just a physical reminder that customers’ expectations have increased,” Ah You said. “Now people just want to come in and they know pretty much what they want to buy. It’s just a matter of experience.”
“The building is new, the outside is new and we’re kind of trying to do the same thing with our technology and our sale processes,” Ah You said.
The dealership is adding iPads to its service department and allowing purchases or leases to be done digitally on a thumb drive. Through an online portal customers can detail what service is needed so there is less wait time upon arrival.
Cutter will hold a grand opening June 25 and 26 at the dealership.
