It’s finally here come Sunday, that special day, once a year, to honor those special men in our lives. It’s the NBA Finals!
Kidding, kidding. It’s Father’s Day, of course, set aside to tell Dad that we appreciate him, and hey, thanks for everything.
A bit of history, in honor of dear old Dad: President Calvin Coolidge unofficially started Father’s Day in 1924, according to The Washington Post, to celebrate the guys but mostly “to impress upon fathers the full measure of their obligations.” It would be another four decades before another president officially designated the third Sunday in June as Father’s Day. That came well after the establishment of Mother’s Day in 1914 — but who’s comparing?
To all fathers and father figures out there, enjoy your day. And enjoy LeBron vs. Curry at 2 p.m.; it should be epic.
Make sure it will be there when you are
Unless it’s driver’s licensing, stop right there if you were planning to do some city business at the Satellite City Hall at City Square in Dillingham; it shut its doors on Friday.
The new Satellite City Hall at Kapalama Hale will open for service starting Tuesday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays. Services there will include motor vehicle registration, real property tax and water bill payments, bus pass sales and assorted licenses, from bicycles to mopeds to dogs.
The only service still at City Square, through June 24, is the Driver Licensing Center. Once closed, those services will reopen at Kapalama Hale starting June 28.
