The U.S. men’s national team, with two Hawaii high school graduates in starting roles, remained unbeaten in FIVB World League play Friday, defeating Iran 3-1 in Rio de Janeiro.
With Micah Christenson (Kamehameha) at setter and Erik Shoji (Punahou) at libero, the Americans held on for a 23-25, 25-13, 27-25, 26-24 victory. Christenson had five kills and a block in addition to 18 assists, while Shoji had 11 digs. Reserve setter Kawika Shoji (‘Iolani) served once in Set 4.
The U.S. (2-0) meets host Brazil (2-0) today.
