Garbage collection woes caused by mechanical problems continued Tuesday on Maui, county officials said in a news release.
The county’s Solid Waste Division said residential refuse was not picked up Tuesday on a collection route in Kula and Haiku. Officials said they hope to pick up the garbage today.
On Monday, county officials said mechanical problems resulted in residential refuse not being collected on a route in Pukalani and part of a route in Makawao.
County officials did not specify what the mechanical problems were.
Big Isle police asking for tips to ID shoplifter
Hawaii island police on Monday asked for help identifying a shoplifter caught on a Hilo store’s surveillance cameras April 25.
Police ask anyone who knows the identity of the person in the photo to call the Police Department’s nonemergency line at 935-3311 or Officer Joshua Gouveia at 961-2213.
Tipsters who want to remain anonymous may call CrimeStoppers at 961-8300.
Portion of H-3 to be closed for 12 hours
The H-3 freeway will be closed in the Kaneohe-bound direction between the Halawa Interchange and the Likelike Highway underpass from 7 p.m. Saturday through 7 a.m. Sunday for routine tunnel maintenance and cleaning.
Electronic message boards will be displayed to inform motorists of the closure. State transportation officials advise motorists to allow for extra travel time and use alternate routes such as the Likelike Highway or Pali Highway.
