Summertime in Las Vegas traditionally means low room rates, and the summer of 2016 is no different. A survey conducted last week by LasVegasAdvisor.com turned up 48 hotel-casinos with rates of $50 and below.
For the first time in several years, there were no casinos with rates below $20, but base rates of $30 or less were found at Arizona Charlie’s Boulder, Boulder Station, Circus Circus, the D, Downtown Grand, El Cortez, Ellis Island, Excalibur, Fiesta Henderson, Fiesta Rancho, Golden Gate, Harrah’s, Hooters, Luxor, Palace Station, Plaza, Silver Sevens, Stratosphere, Texas Station and Wild Wild West.
Rates change quickly, and these are base prices that could be subject to any combination of taxes, booking charges and resort fees, but they’re an excellent place to start if you’re trying to track down great room deals over the next couple of months.
High-enders: The summer brings good deals at the elite resorts, too. These represent the best prices found at upscale casinos: New York-New York $53, Planet Hollywood $55, Mandalay Bay $57, Mirage $59, Paris $59, MGM $60, Treasure Island $63, Green Valley Ranch $66, South Point $69, SLS $75, Red Rock $80, Cromwell $85 and Caesars Palace $98. These rates can change quickly, but all were available at the time of the survey.
Restaurant closing: Aria’s Bar Masa, one of Las Vegas’ most acclaimed sushi restaurants, is closing this month. A replacement has not been announced.
NBA summer: The NBA Summer League is back in Las Vegas, with 24 teams and some of the NBA’s top prospects participating. Games will be played Friday to July 18 at the Thomas & Mack Center and the Cox Pavilion, with daily passes available for $25 when purchased in advance.
Question: Who’s been running hot at the World Series of Poker?
Answer: About two-thirds of the way through, three players have already won twice: Benny Glaser, Ian Johns and Jason Mercier. Mercier reportedly made several proposition bets that he’d win multiple events, and now stands to collect nearly $2 million if he can win one more.
