Tall falls put islands on the map

COURTESY CAROLE HOLLRIGEL

Shirley Cavanaugh of Kaneohe visited Iguazu (“Big Water”) Falls in Argentina — one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World — during a recent trip to South America. While waiting for a tour to get a close look at the waterfalls, Cavanaugh saw a display board showing that two of Hawaii’s waterfalls are among the 10 tallest waterfalls in the world. Oloupena Falls on Molokai at 2,953 feet is No. 4, and Puukaoku Falls on Hawaii island at 2,756 feet is No. 8. Cavanaugh’s travel buddy, Carole Hollrigel of Irvine, Calif., took this photo.
