Kai Coffee has opened a second location, this one in downtown Honolulu’s Arcade Building.
In addition to serving craft-brewed coffees from “cortados” to lattes, the new cafe also marks the debut of a menu featuring Kai Coffee’s in-house bakery, which produces dozens of savory and sweet pastries.
Those hungry for a quick breakfast or lunch will find cafe basics such as croissants, scones and cakes but also “soustenirs” — ciabatta and focaccia breads baked with toppings such as pastrami and onion, Black Forest ham and cheddar cheese, and fresh fruit. A few salads and stew selections will round out the menu.
Founders Samuel and Natalie Suiter opened the first Kai Coffee in the Hyatt Regency Waikiki Beach Resort & Spa two years ago to showcase premium Hawaii regional and international coffee.
The new location, at 207 S. King St., is open from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays. Call 537-3415 or visit kaicoffeehawaii.com.
Waikiki bar-hopping in style
Hawaii Tasting Tours are ideal for those who wish to burn a few calories while consuming them.
The monthly tours, which debut Sunday, are an upscale way to go bar-hopping through the lounges of the Starwood Hotels & Resorts Waikiki.
Start at the Mai Tai Bar at the Royal Hawaiian, continue to Vintage 1901 at the Moana Surfrider, Splash Bar & Bento at the Sheraton Princess Kaiulani and RumFire at the Sheraton Waikiki.
Gigi Gaea, who launched tasting tours on Maui in 2013, will lead groups on a walk between destinations, offering tidbits of history and culture.
At each stop a cocktail or glass of wine will be served with a plate of food, from Wagyu beef tartare nachos at Vintage 1901 to Kahuku shrimp bao at RumFire.
Tours, for those 21 and older, cost $179 and depart from the Sheraton Waikiki lobby at 4:30 p.m. on the first Sunday of each month. The price includes four hours of parking. For reservations, email info@hawaiistastingtours.com or call 359-8159. Visit hawaiistastingtours.com.
