A 65-year-old woman died Monday in a single-car crash on Kauai.

The accident occurred at approximately 6 p.m. in Lawai , where police said the Kalaheo woman was traveling northbound on Koloa Road in a Honda sedan when her vehicle crossed the center line into the next lane and struck a fence along the southbound shoulder of the roadway.

The sedan flipped onto its roof before crashing into a nearby building, according to a news release from the county police department.

The woman, whose identification is being withheld pending notification of family members, died at the scene. Police said she was the lone occupant in the vehicle.

An autopsy is scheduled to be performed this week.

This is Kauai’s sixth traffic-related fatality so far this year compared to a total of three traffic fatalities that occurred on the island in all of last year.
