Honolulu City Councilman Trevor Ozawa is replacing Councilman Ikaika Anderson as chairman of the influential Zoning and Planning Committee under a new committee assignment lineup.

Today’s announcement, released by Council Chairman Ernie Martin, came a day after a move to strip Anderson of his title as Council vice chairman was nixed at the last minute.

Anderson will not chair any committee under the new lineup, a rarity on the Council, but will serve as Honolulu’s representative to the Hawaii State Association of Counties.

The Executive Matters and Legal Affairs Committee, which had been led by Ozawa, will now be chaired by Councilman Ron Menor.

The Public Health, Safety and Welfare Committee, which had been chaired by Menor, will now be led by Councilman Brandon Elefante.

The Business, Economic Development and Tourism Committee, which had been chaired by Elefante, has been dissolved.

Martin’s memo outlining the new committee assignments did not give any explanation for the changes.

Does this have anything to do with Uncle Andy?

    • leino says:

Uncle Andy is busy using up his silver bullets at the City DPP, and the State Dept of Health, and the City Liquor Commission, and Parks and Recreation, and , and , and … How far do apples fall from the tree?

Here is a link to the memorandum sent out by Council Chairman Ernie Martin today shuffling committee assignments. http://bit.ly/29sBvbW

    Very pilau Ernie…

  4. islandsun says:

It payback time for all the sellouts

  5. aomohoa says:

This article is completely useless. Who writes this stuff? Where is some real information on why?

    • OldDiver says:

Trevor aligned himself with the two big council honchos Ernie Martin and Ann Kobayashi and has been richly rewarded.

    • MillionMonkeys says:

I’m sure more info will come out. In your day, they printed newspapers once a day or a week. After writing all their long articles, they arranged the little letters together and a dude named Gutenberg ran the paper through a press.

In today’s fabulous Internet age, news articles are posted as things happen. When time allows, reporters can write long investigative pieces. However, for many as-it-happens articles, you will not get all the info right away. It is what it is.

      • fiveo says:

You have a point, however SA does not really do investigative reporting and it is rare that they follow up on things like this.
They just accept press releases and print that as news. SA today is only worth laying it down in my bird’s cage to poop on.
This is why many people who want real information get their news from alternative news sites and not the drive by media who are just tools of
their corporate bosses and the government.

    • amela says:

Well they could have held back the report if you wanted them to gather all the pertinent information for a week.

  6. koloheboi says:

I would think that reporter Gordan Pang could have asked the question, “Why the changes?” Very standard “who, what, where, when, why and how” basics of journalism. Even if it came from a press release, a simple follow-up call is not difficult. The desk editor should have asked for more info too.

  7. MANDA says:

Confirms my low opinion of the City Council. Trevor Ozawa in a leadership position? Who is paying off whom?

  8. W_Williams says:

Oh you mean Ernie Martin, the guy who got his law degree while working for the city, on city time? That one?

  9. aiea7 says:

hope ozawa is kicked out when reelection time comes. he is just a goof ball. he is just like martin, no class, vindictive and malicious but most of all a cry baby. martin should be fired too.

    • fbiguy says:

The one time I needed help from his office, they really were very responsive. Was left with a very positive impression of him and his staff.

  10. Bdpapa says:

I like Ikaika but if there were any improprieties or even a hint of it, Im ok. But he should have been able to move to another leadership role. Icing him out brings a question of i integrity on the Council Chair.

  11. 78R8R says:

    PRP directed moves

  12. Ronin006 says:

Anderson deserves to be booted from his Chairmanship of the Zoning and Planning Committee for being on the take from developers who then received favorable consideration of their zoning variance requests, which of course had nothing to do with the huge cash contributions they made to Anderson’s campaign fund. He should have been charged with bribery but he is somehow coated with the same stuff that coats Hillary Clinton.
