Kauai prosecutor wants unit to target drug houses

LIHUE >> A Kauai prosecutor wants to target suspected drug houses with a special investigation unit.

The Garden Island reports the proposed unit would hire an investigator and legal clerk if a $131,000 federal grant can be secured.

Kauai Prosecuting Attorney Justin Kollar said residents call in daily about suspected neighborhood drug activity and a perceived lack of action from law enforcement.

He said an investigation needs to come before any action.

The unit would work with the Kauai Police Department and prosecutors to investigate complaints.

Kollar said the unit will also inform the public about the best ways to provide tips.

The pilot project could launch in less than a year and last as long as four years.

Kollar said taxpayers wouldn’t fund the unit.

“Taxpayers wouldn’t fund the project”, Kollar said. Feds will be paying so, who pays the Feds? RICO statutes will used the confiscate the home if the stash is found?

The sooner the better and don’t forget all the other islands too!

Hawaii should be ending the War On Drugs. The WOD has only resulted in mass incarceration, costing millions for taxpayers and not ending the drug problem. The solution is to treat drug addiction as a public health problem, not a law enforcement problem. Treatment for drug addicts gets people off drugs, and is cheaper than incarceration. Incarceration is expensive, does not solve the problem, and just ruins lives. We should help people get off drugs, not punish them for being addicted. It’s time to get smart about the drug problem.

Okay, I’ll say this slowly. Complex problems do not have simple solutions. ……….. Yes, Public Health is one area that can better address this issue, also education, enforcement, judicial solutions, sentencing, societal reintroduction. Another area is for parents who use drugs not to expect their kids to be different. I used to tell my 9th graders that whenever anyone has a simple solution to a complex problem, they should run in the other direction as quickly as possible.

Can the Kauai prosecutor target Honolulu drug houses, too? Nobody’s watching them.

Kauai is on the right track. Maybe we should take a page from what the new Filipino president is doing on the war on drugs. BUT, please target the batu/ice/meth/clear houses FIRST. We don’t need to be having people tweaking on the streets thinking they are superman. What is Honolulu doing? Oh forgot, too much time focusing on rail, bike lanes, and condo developments which mostly foreigners are really buying since they can afford it!!

Do what does the Kauai Chief of Police and the Mayor think?

I actually like Deuterte and his ironman approach. Yes, kill the drug dealers and confiscate their stashes and money. Resell the stash and make more money. Tough love approach. Reduce the costs of maintaining prisons and reduce crime by hard threats. Filippinos don’t listen and got that I no Kea attitude. Corrupt, too. Is he going to force PacMan to finally pay his taxes? Ignore that he is a celebrity who thinks he is immune to paying. He is now trying to make friends with the Moros across the pond by saying the USA stinks. Makes me laugh. A Filipino never sells his car unless there is something wrong with it. Another funny dictator is Chan-0-Cha in Thailand. He wants to be known as President Happiness. Complains why the press keeps asking him hard questions like why the promised elections have been cancelled. He wants everybody to smile and ask happy questions. He threatens to kill all rapists then changes his mind. He threatens to force disobedient dissenters into the Thai army then changes his mind. Maybe you can get a job in Thailand as Chief of Common Sense. This guy is so funny the economy is going downhill. Love that the dollar now brings 35 Bahts when it was 30B three years ago. Plan your next high school reunion there instead of Vegas. The international press corps and SNL are going to be kept busy for many years to come.
