The Palms Casino Resort has been sold to the parent company of Station Casinos, Las Vegas’ largest operator of locals-oriented casinos.
Other than the general announcement, which included the sale price of $312.5 million, little additional information has been released. It’s expected that the name will remain unchanged. The deal is expected to close later this year.
Slot joints close: Downtown’s Mermaids and La Bayou casinos closed last week. Also closing was the Girls of Glitter Gulch strip club. A new casino is planned for the Mermaids/Glitter Gulch space.
Coffeehouse closing: Downtown’s The Beat Coffeehouse & Records will close by Sept. 30 and be replaced with a chain restaurant out of California called Eureka!
Pool opens: The Plaza has opened its new fifth-floor rooftop pool complex, featuring new cabanas, a 12-person hot tub and more. It’s open to the public, with a $10 admission charge for non-hotel guests.
Question: What will the Las Vegas hockey team be called?
Answer: The owner wants to call the team the Black Knights, which is the team name of his alma mater, Army. But there’s been a fair amount of pushback for a more Vegasy name, like Aces, High Rollers or Neon. Vote for your favorite name in a poll currently running at LasVegasAdvisor.com.
