The Honolulu Fire Department responded to a two-alarm building fire located at 425 South Street on Tuesday at 4:36 p.m.

Discarded smoking materials are blamed for a fire in the 15th floor unit of a Kakaako high rise that caused $21,000 worth of damage Tuesday.

Firefighters arriving at 4:36 p.m. at the 42-story One Waterfront Towers condominium on South Street saw smoke coming from the building’s window.

An activated fire sprinkler extinguished the fire by the time firefighters got to the unit.

No was home at the time of the fire. No injuries were reported.

Residents were told to evacuate the building.

    Which building? Come on… really?

Gotta be One Waterfront Towers at 415 & 4425 South Street, or the newly built 801 South Street.

      • Morimoto says:

Easily figured out. 801 South Street has over 42 floors. The thing is, the newspaper should have stated the name of the building, rather than leave it to the readers to find out, no matter how simple it is.

funny thing is one waterfront has 45 floors

        • Morimoto says:

@goodday, I see they updated their story to include the name of the building. But assuming you’re correct about the number of floors, they still got the floor numbers wrong.

  2. Morimoto says:

A South Street 42 story condominium? How many condos on South St. are anywhere near that height? Is it really any harder to find out the name of the condo than to find out it’s a “42 story condo” on South Street? I just wonder what the logic is by not naming the building.

Luckily the fire was in a newer building with an automatic sprinkler system.
