Bev Kim’s success stormed into its sixth decade at the 60th Waialae Women’s Invitational on Tuesday. Kristin Le’s inaugural win at the event was just as impressive.
Le, about to start her junior season at Santa Clara, won the overall low-gross championship by nine strokes at Waialae Country Club. She shot 71-70 for a total of 2-under-par 141. Kimberlie Miyamoto, the defending low-gross champion, was next at 73—150.
Kim, a member of the Hawaii Golf Hall of Fame, won her first Waialae low-net championship in 1961, at age 15, and her latest on Tuesday. The 10-handicapper fired rounds of 83-80 for a net score of 143, then won a playoff with Alice Ridgway for overall low-net honors.
Kim has won 10 low-gross or low-net overall championships at Waialae, including at least one in each of the past six decades.
