Worked in television for nearly 30 years. I can honestly say he was the finest human being I ever worked with. A man many looked up to and respected due to his humility and kindness and dedication to his craft. He made us all better. I am honored to call you a friend Kirk. Condolences to Linda and his family.

you will be missed dearly. Rest in Paradise Uncle Kirk
Aloha, Kirk. We miss you already. Your humanity and decency was always apparent in your broadcasts. Condolences to your family and friends.
Such a great guy (first) and excellent newscaster. He always poked fun at himself, and was a pleasure to watch this pro at work. Glad he had Linda at his side as he lifted himself from some past personal troubles. Kirk’s legacy dwarfs all the cookie cutter look-at-me-me-me news people on TV now. You know who you are, take a lesson from this news legend.
My condolences to Linda and the Matthews ohana. I had the pleasure of working with Kirk at KHON years ago. Kirk never felt he was a star, or celbrity, just because he was reporting or anchoring, and the stories he reported on were always genuine, and showed his love for Hawaii and its people. He always treated everyone with dignity and respect, a rare quality for anyone in the industry to possess. You will be missed, but I know that those that knew you as family, friend, co-worker, or acquaintance feel the same way. God Bless and Rest In Peace.
