Sinkhole shuts down Ala Moana park entrance
The city shut down the Ewa vehicular entrance to Ala Moana Regional Park at 4:15 p.m. Tuesday due to a sinkhole that’s undermined about 4 feet of road under Ala Moana Park Drive.
Only a small hole is visible on the surface of the pavement, but officials said the hole is larger underground.
Vehicles must enter and exit the park only via the Diamond Head entrance, across from Atkinson Drive, until further notice, city officials said.
Bicycles and pedestrians may still enter through all pedestrian entrances.
The city is giving no timetable for reopening the entrance, across from Kamakee Street.
Officials are trying to figure out what caused the sinkhole and how to fix it.

Sinkhole? That’s not a sinkhole. These are sinkholes! These are sinkholes!
I missed the error. And if there is one, what is the big deal?

I don’t get it either. There was a single sinkhole at Ala Moana and not many (plural) sinkholes? So what is the problem?
Wonder how many more of these will be appearing with all the over-development in the area? You think that pervasive smell of raw sewage is your imagination when you walk around Ala Moana Center’s lower levels? Think again…liquid has to go somewhere if there is a leak, and you can bet there are many, many leaks around in a neighborhood that is overburdened.
You mean under & around all those “affordable” condos?
Where’s the picture of the sinkhole???
ditto
Maybe if Caldwell spent $1.3m on assessing infrastructure and maintenance needs at Ala Moana instead of on mainland park consultants, we wouldn’t have this problem, or at least we’d know what caused it. See how Howard Hughes’ buyers like Ala Moana when it’s all “improved” right out of local people’s usage but stinks and has sinkholes.
Photo op for the Mayor pending heroic repair job.
haha typical, just fix it fast please
If it isn’t a sinkhole, then it must be only a puka in the ground.
