A 29-year-old Nuuanu man was charged with attempted murder after police said he intentionally hit another man with a vehicle in Makakilo.
Albert Reimers, who has a Barron Lane address, was charged Friday with second-degree attempted murder, first-degree criminal property damage, second-degree criminal property damage and first-degree terroristic threatening. His bail was set at $75,000.
Police said that at about 1 a.m. Tuesday, Reimers intentionally collided with a vehicle being driven by a 28-year-old man. When the victim got out of his vehicle, Reimers drove at him and hit him before fleeing the scene, police said.
The victim was taken to the hospital in stable condition. Reimers was arrested at the main police station the following day.
Blaze destroys 2-story home on Big Isle
Fire destroyed a home in Captain Cook, the Hawaii County Fire Department reported Saturday.
The fire broke out at about 1:59 a.m. Friday. Firefighters, arriving at 2:05 a.m., said the two-story home was fully involved in flames.
They brought the fire at 85-4582 Mamalahoa Highway under control at 2:30 a.m. and extinguished it at 5:45 a.m.
Neighbors said the homeowners were off island.
The cause of the fire was undetermined. No damage estimate was released.
Speeding possible in critical H-2 crash
A 27 year-old man may have been speeding when he lost control of his motorcycle on the H-2 freeway Thursday night near Mililani and was thrown after hitting a wall, police said.
The motorcyclist was taken to the Queen’s Medical Center in critical condition.
The accident occurred at 11:02 p.m. in the northbound lanes of the H-2 freeway about three quarters of a mile south of the Ka Uka Boulevard offramp.
Police said the victim was driving a 2013 Kawasaki motorcycle when he lost control, crossed three lanes and was thrown into the bushes after hitting a barrier wall.
Suspect arrested in Waikiki assault
Officers arrested a 29-year-old homeless man in Waikiki after he allegedly hit a 52-year-old man “with a dangerous instrument, causing pain,” police said.
The incident happened at about 4:35 p.m. Friday. Officers arrested the man opposite the Aston Waikiki Beach Hotel at 4:53 p.m. on suspicion of second-degree assault.
