MAUNALUA HEADLINES KE KANI O KE KAI

KCCN FM100 staffer Aaron Mikami, left, celebrated backstage with Maunalua — Richard Gideon, “Uncle Bobby” Moderow Jr. and Kahi Kaonohi — after the trio closed this year’s fourth Ke Kani o ke Kai concert with a 35-minute performance Thursday at the Waikiki Aquarium. Maunalua opened with “Hi‘ilawe” and continued with other Hawaiian and hapa-haole standards. A dramatic highlight was Moderow going into the audience to demonstrate showy slack-key techniques.
