Police have identified two people who died in a head-on collision while eluding police Thursday in Hilo.
One was identified as 20-year-old Alicia Andres of Hilo. The other is a 17-year-old boy whose name is not being released to the public because he is a minor.
An autopsy conducted Friday determined that both died from injuries sustained in the crash, which occurred on the Mohouli Extension near Kukuau Street.
Police said that at about 12:45 a.m. a man reported his car stolen at Kekaulike Street in downtown Hilo.
A police officer later made a traffic stop on the stolen vehicle at Kaumana Drive and Mohouli Extension, police said. The officer left his vehicle and was approaching the stolen car when it sped off south.
The officer returned to his vehicle and pursued the stolen car. Police said the officer lost sight of the vehicle and then encountered two crashed sedans, including the stolen vehicle.
Police said the two were pronounced dead at the scene, while the 39-year-old woman in the other vehicle was taken to Hilo Medical Center in critical condition.

The city Medical Examiner’s Office identified the swimmer as Jun Hyeong Kim of Seoul.
At about 7 p.m., police said, Kim was swimming in waters near the Honolulu Police Department’s Waikiki substation. Other swimmers then found him floating unresponsive.
People brought him to shore and performed CPR until paramedics arrived. Kim was transported in critical condition to a hospital, where he later died.
