The championship match of the 46th Creative Energy/Pacifico Men’s Night Doubles tournament was postponed by rain on Saturday at Kailua Racquet Club.
The match between the second-seeded team of Ikaika Jobe and Dennis Lajola and eighth-seeded Andrea Zannoni and Joel Kusnierz was rescheduled to 9 a.m. today, weather permitting.
The players were warming up for the final when intermittent showers forced them off the court. The court dried enough for the match to start at 9:54 p.m. and Jobe and Lajola opened with a break of Zannoni’s serve. But a downpour halted play again.
Prior to the match, Jobe was announced as the overall winner of the USTA Hawaii Pacific Section’s Triple Crown of Tennis. Jobe won the Oahu Club Night Doubles title with Jeffrey Fitch in June and they reached the semifinals of the USTA Hawaii Pacific Men’s Night Doubles at Ala Moana in early July. The triple crown winners earn a wild card into the Tennis Championships of Maui in January.
