A variety of growlers, or take-home jugs for beer, soft drinks or kombucha, will be available in the Honolulu Growler USA restaurant for prices ranging from $8.99 to $19.99.

Hawaii’s first franchised Growler USA location will open August 24 at 449 Kapahulu Ave.

Local franchisee Bill Muneno is opening the location that will specialize in locally made craft beers and other American-made microbrews, as well as hard cider, wine on tap, hand-crafted root beer and kombucha tea.

As its name implies, the microbrew pub also will offer a variety of growlers, or 64-ounce jugs in which customers can take home some of the on-tap beverage choices, excluding wine.

“Honolulu’s enthusiasm for craft beer and its desire to support local entrepreneurs make it a natural fit for Growler USA,” said Dan White, CEO and founder of Growler USA, in a statement. “We are confident Bill’s pub will become the go-to gathering spot for people looking for quality craft beverages, or those who simply want to enjoy a quality dining experience in a warm, welcoming environment.”

Muneno, brother of long-time news anchor Kathy Muneno, has localized the menu of the national chain, adding a Spam burger (with balsamic glazed vegetables, provolone cheese, lettuce and tomato), and an ahi poke dish comprising ahi, avocado, shoyu, fresh ginger, diced jalapenos and sesame oil.

The website for the Waikiki location of Growler USA is up and running, but some of the elements, such as the menu, and the map, are works in progress.

The opening of Growler USA will take place the day before the reopening of the redeveloped International Market Place in Waikiki.
