There was a private student and family tour of the new 2-3 grade level facilities at Punahou School. This renovation is the final stages in a comprehensive 10+ year redesign of the Junior School and is specifically designed to enable a different model of learning. Andy Cole worked on a set of nested bowls in milo wood on Saturday during the annual Honolulu Woodturners show outside Nohea Gallery at Ward Warehouse. After his initial carving to separate the bowls, he lets the wood dry for a year be- fore he finishes up. Proceeds from the sale of certain pieces at the show this year went to Family Promise of Hawai'i, a group that helps homeless families.

The Hiroshima Commemoration and Peace Service held at Izumo Taishakyo Mission concluded with the ringing of the Hiroshima Peace Bell on Saturday. The bell was presented as a gift to the people of Hawaii in 1985 by the Hirsoshima Prefectural Government and is a replica of the one located on ground zero in Hiroshima.

The Kilauea lava flow known as 61G continued to pour into the ocean Sunday. The Hawaiian Volcano Observatory said the flow from Puu Oo remains active on Kilauea's south flank. The entry point at Kamokuna has widened in the past week, now spanning 787 feet, the observatory said. A breakout occurred on the eastern edge of the flow on the pali Friday night, but it was short-lived, scientists said.
