No. 3 Punahou crushes No. 6 Kamehameha to open ILH football season

Punahou’s Ethan Takayama tried to ward off Kamehameha’s Hoku Arias in an ILH football game on Thursday at Aloha Stadium.

Punahou quarterback Nick Kapule threw for a career-high 348 yards and five touchdowns and No. 3 Punahou crushed No. 6 Kamehameha, 56-14, to open the ILH season at Aloha Stadium on Thursday night.

Judd Cockett had 103 yards receiving with three touchdowns and Ethan Takeyama caught seven passes for 146 yards and a score for the Buffanblu (2-0, 1-0 ILH), who evened the longest high school football rivalry in the country in terms of games played at 89-89-6 against Kamehameha (1-2, 0-1).

Punahou has won seven in a row in the series and has scored 126 points in its first two games this season.

Kanoa Shannon rushed for 139 yards and a touchdown to lead Kamehameha.
