STARBUCKS EVENINGS: The Ala Moana Hotel’s Starbucks location has introduced Starbucks Evenings, offering small plates, wine and beer from 2 to 9:30 p.m. daily. On the menu: meatballs with tomato-basil sauce ($4.95), left; flatbread topped with chicken sausage and mushrooms ($6.95); and truffle macaroni and cheese ($5.95). Starbucks Evenings launched nationally in 2010 with seasonal menus that vary by region. And of course you can still top it off with a cup of coffee.

Johnny Rockets has arrived at Pearl Highlands Center with the opening last week of the international chain’s first Hawaii location.
The location is a Johnny Rockets Express, serving made-to-order burgers, sandwiches, shakes, malts and salads. A self-serve soda station has 20 drink choices that customers can customize in more than 100 combinations.
Hours are 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily. Call 367-1748.
Johnny Rockets, founded in 1986, has more than 350 franchise and corporate locations in 28 countries.
The express concept is relatively new, designed for smaller locations and quicker service. Customers order at the counter and can be served at a table or take their meals to go.

Restaurant at Hotel Wailea welcomes new head chef
Maui native Zach Sato has been named chef de cuisine at The Restaurant at Hotel Wailea on Maui.
Sato is a graduate of San Diego Culinary Institute and has spent more than a decade working for chef Peter Merriman.
He expects to emphasize seasonal, island-grown ingredients, including those from the hotel’s own farms.
