A head-on crash on Kaumualii Highway Kauai critically injured one person and seriously injured two others early Saturday morning.

Police said a Mazda sedan was heading east on the highway at around 2:40 a.m. when it apparently crossed the centerline and struck a Toyota sedan head-on.

Paramedics transported a man, 36, in the Toyota to the hospital before he was medivaced to Queen’s Medical Center in critical condition.

The male driver, 39, of the Mazda and his female passenger, 47, were taken to the hospital in serious condition.

Police closed the highway in both directions until around 6:45 a.m. during their investigation.
