An 81-year-old woman was in critical condition Monday after a car ran her over in a bank parking lot on Kapahulu Avenue.
Honolulu police Traffic Division Capt. Stason Tanaka said the driver, a woman in her 70s, apparently didn’t see the victim, who was walking with a friend in the parking lot toward Diamond Head. The driver was making a left turn in the parking lot and apparently slowed for the victim’s friend to walk past her car, but then ran over the victim who was walking behind.
The driver stopped with the victim pinned underneath the car, behind the left front wheel.
Firefighters jacked up the car to free the woman, who was taken to the Queen’s Medical Center.
The collision occurred in the parking lot of the First Hawaiian Bank near Waikiki-Kapahulu Public Library at about 12:50 p.m.
Tanaka said the driver was not injured. Police opened a negligent injury investigation.
