Paramedics arrived at Turtle Bay Resort and found both parties on the ground in the parking lot, each with an apparent gun shot wound to the head, at about 8:30 p.m., an Emergency Medical Services report said.
A 44-year-old man and a 17-year-old girl died Friday in a double suicide in Kahuku, police said.

Police said the man and girl were seen inflicting fatal injuries to themselves, and a handgun was involved. The victims were taken to a hospital where they died.
Homicide detectives were investigating the deaths as a double suicide, not a murder-suicide, police said.

17 and 44 year-old, strange!
Another news media said he was 19. They really shouldn’t say anything until the facts are straight but it’s all about being first.
Media keeps giving out wrong info. I read that 19-year-old part, too. Can’t remember who reported it. I read all the different sites reports and try to figure out which one is correct. Sometimes one news report might say, “Name not available” but yet another site may have already released the name and photo.
What must have happened to make such a dire decision? Maybe counseling could have helped? May God Bless.

My friend once described suicide as a long-term solution to a short-term problem. Profoundly sad.
Not always the case. That is why it is legal in some states.If you have an illness that puts you in horrible pain and you will never get better is a reason. In this case it may be two young people that are not mature enough to fully comprehend what they are doing.Especially if the guy was also only 19 like I heard. I knew a 16 year old who killed herself just because she was angry with her mother and knew the mother would find her.
More like taking a long nap on a short couch.

Whoever they are, and whatever the reason for their actions, this is just so sad !

Sounds fishy, 44 year old man and 17 year old girl committing double suicide? Police sure,the 44 year old was not a manipulator that convinced the young girl to end her life because he wanted to die? In that case woukdn’t that be murder?

Dude offed himself in the presence of his 17 year old “girlfriend” who was about to break up with him. She was so distraught that she picked up the gun and offed herself.
No murder, she made a conscious decision to do what she did.
So she was going to break up with him and then decide to follow him to death? Watson, please go with Sherlock to report this to HPD.

Police, don’t spend too much money investigating. It does not matter now if it was double suicide or murder suicide.
It think it would matter a whole lot to the family of the 17 year old girl to know exactly how their daughter died.
HawaiiNewsNow has much more detail on this story, including eyewtiness interview that prior to the shooting, the 44 year old man, who the article identified, was threatening and yelling at the 17 year old girl in the parking lot, who is believed to be a runaway and former senior at Mililani high school. The eyewitness interviewed could not believe this case is considered a double suicide. Yes, it makes a big difference to the family and the public to know if this 17 year old girl was murdered BEFORE the 44 year old man killed himself.
