Germany’s Ifo institute releases its monthly business confidence index, a key indicator for Europe’s biggest economy. Merck & Co., Caterpillar Inc., General Motors Co. and Chipotle Mexican Grill Inc. report quarterly financial results.

Wednesday: Commerce Department releases new home sales for September. Southwest Airlines Co., Coca-Cola Co., Comcast Corp., Boeing Co. and Tesla Motors Inc. report quarterly financial results.

Thursday: Labor Department releases weekly jobless claims. Freddie Mac, the mortgage company, releases weekly mortgage rates. Commerce Department releases durable goods for September. National Association of Realtors releases pending home sales index for September. First Hawaiian Inc., Central Pacific Pacific Corp., Alexander & Baldwin Inc., Volkswagen, Deutsche Bank, Aetna Inc., Ford Motor Co., Altria Group Inc., United Parcel Service Inc., Alphabet Inc., Inc., Apple Inc. and Twitter Inc. report quarterly financial results.

Friday: Commerce Department releases third-quarter gross domestic product. Labor Department releases the third-quarter employment cost index. American Savings Bank and Exxon Mobil Corp. report quarterly financial results.
