Chaminade’s Kuulei Lynch has been named the Pacific West Conference women’s volleyball defender of the week.
The Castle high school alumna tallied 17 total blocks — six solo and 11 assisted — in the Silverswords’ three matches last week. Chaminade will host California Baptist on Saturday at McCabe Gym.
HPU women fall in soccer
The Hawaii Pacific women’s soccer team was shut out by Point Loma 2-0 at Waipahu on Monday.
Sami Swason struck early and scored unassisted in the second minute of the first half for the Sea Lions. Madelon Denbaugh added the second goal in the 30th minute with a header off a corner kick by Rachel Witz.
The Sharks’ record fell to 3-10-1 overall and 3-6-0 in PacWest play, while Point Loma improved to 10-2-3 and 8-1-1.
HPU men lose to Point Loma
The Hawaii Pacific men’s soccer team dropped its game, losing to Point Loma 2-1 at Waipio Soccer Stadium.
Keyran Kelly scored in the 47th minute with a chip shot to put the Sea Lions ahead and Indiana Fuller added a breakaway goal in the 82nd minute. Javier Risco Garcia scored for HPU on a free kick in the 88th minute.
Hawaii Pacific’s record is 3-6-4 overall and 3-4-2 in conference play and Point Loma is 6-5-4 and 5-4-1.
BYUH men’s soccer team ties
BYU-Hawaii men’s soccer team finished its last home match in a tie with Azusa Pacific in Laie.
Callum Wallace scored in the fourth minute off an assist by Tim Ogunniyi that rolled over the goalkeeper’s hand to put the Cougars up. Daniel Corbett stole the ball from the center and beat Azusa Pacific’s keeper scoring in the 33rd minute to tie up the game.
The Seasiders are 5-5-4 overall and 4-4-3 in the PacWest and Azusa Pacific is 6-5-3 and 6-3-1.
BYUH women shut out by Azusa Pacific
BYU-Hawaii women’s soccer team fell to Azusa Pacific 3-0 in its final home game on Monday at BYU-Hawaii soccer field.
Ally Brown put the Cougars on the board first, scoring in the fifth minute off an assist by Hayley Williamson. Victoria Kovatch increased the lead with a header in the 47th minute and Lindsey Ryals added the final goal in the 62nd minute on a free kick.
BYU-Hawaii’s record is now 5-8-2 overall and 4-6-1 PacWest while Azusa Pacific is 10-3-2 and 8-1-1.
HPU volleyball beats Azusa Pacific
Pomai Recca had 19 kills and Perla Escobar added 15 as Hawaii Pacific beat Point Loma 25-19, 25-20, 24-26, 25-15 in a PacWest volleyball match Monday at St. Andrew’s Priory.
Alison McCollum added 11 kills in the win. Sierra Dawson had 35 assists and Mahea Pescaia finished with 28 assists for HPU, which improves to 14-7 overall, 10-2 in league play. Brianna Sizemore had 15 kills and Samantha Krakower had 12 for Point Loma (8-13, 6-6).
