Fort Street was named for the fort that existed from 1816 until 1857 at Honolulu Harbor. Located slightly makai of the current Fort and Queen streets, it was about 300 by 340 feet and enclosed nearly 2 acres. These paintings of the fort were done by Paul Emmert in about 1853.
