Power restored after outage near Convention Center
Two power outages in the Honolulu area have occurred affecting some 5,469 customers, including Waikiki, Manoa, McCully, Moiliili, Ala Moana, Tantalus, Lower Punchbowl and Makiki, including areas near the Hawaii Convention Center, according to initial reports from the mapping system used by Hawaiian Electric Co.
HECO spokesman Darren Pai said the power went out sometime between 6:30 p.m. and 6:40 p.m., but power was restored at 7 p.m. He said the outage was caused by a short circuit in the line in the McCully area.
A resident said cars were having problems getting into their own gated garages and into their secured buildings because of the outage.
Pai said the main area that was affected is the Punahou-McCully area, with some extensions out to bordering areas including Waikiki.
