Hawaii junior defensive specialist Clare-Marie Anderson was one of six volleyball players named to the College Sports Information Directors of America Academic All-District 8 team on Thursday.
Anderson, a Punahou School graduate, is in the UH honors program for biology with medical school aspirations. She has played in 52 sets in 19 matches this season for the No. 15 Rainbow Wahine, with 29 digs and two aces.
Anderson, the only representative from the Big West, now is eligible for CoSIDA Academic All-America honors, which will be selected later this month. In order to be eligible for selection, the student-athlete must have at least a 3.30 grade-point average.
She is just the fifth Rainbow Wahine to be recognized by CoSIDA. The others are Lily Kahumoku (2003), Kanoe Kamana‘o (2004, ’05), Tara Hittle (2008), and Kanani Danielson (2009, ’10, ’11).
UH women’s golf team finishes third
The Hawaii women’s golf team finished third, 12 strokes off the lead, at the Rainbow Wahine Invitational on Thursday at the Leilehua Golf Course.
The Rainbow Wahine shot 293 to finish at 875 in the eight-team tournament. Sacramento State won at 863 and Brigham Young was second at 870.
Hawaii Hilo shot a 331 to finish last at 975.
The Rainbow Wahine’s Raquel Ek tied for fifth at 218 and the Vulcans’ Kristeena Locke tied for 30th at 231. Sacramento State’s Julia Becker won with a 211.
