Work to close parks’ walkways
The path and stairway to the Waianapanapa State Park black-sand beach and bay, just north of Hana, will be closed for three weeks beginning Monday for construction work.
The Division of State Parks announced that pedestrian pathways will be upgraded as part of the project.
Also, nearby Pailoa Beach will be inaccessible during construction of a new concrete path and steps.
Currently underway is a six-month project that began in September to install a new 4-foot-wide walkway at the park that will provide access to scenic lookouts along the coast.
The project will not affect the rental of the 12 cabins in the park, but campers should know that construction will go on from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays, the state said. The work should be done by Nov. 28, barring delays due to bad weather.
